Target group

Small and mid-sized alternative investment fund admins and managers in the EU subject to AIFMD regulation, especially those without large in-house compliance teams. Compliance for these firms is still largely manual. Initial markets: Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and France.

Challenges

Building trust with a highly regulated, risk-averse audience that is slow to adopt new tools. Navigating different regulatory requirements across EU member states, each regulator has its own submission process and nuances. Hiring the right technical talent who can work at the intersection of AI and financial regulation. And competing for attention in a market where most funds still rely on spreadsheets and consultants.

Our Story

I spent 5 years consulting in the public and private sector, working closely with regulated industries. When I started looking at alternative investment funds in the EU, I saw the same pattern everywhere: small and mid-sized fund managers drowning in regulatory paperwork, manually filling out Annex IV reports, and paying expensive consultants for work that should be automated. The introduction of AIFMD II creates a compliance burden that hasn't been matched by the tooling available. Most firms still rely on spreadsheets, Word documents, and back-and-forth emails with regulators. At the same time, AI has reached a point where it can genuinely understand regulatory text, generate compliant filings, and guide users through complex workflows. This gap: heavy regulation, outdated processes, and now capable AI, is where Caelith was born. We're building the compliance platform that these funds should have had from day one.
