Our Story

This is a story of cofounder of Abracadabra i'm working with.
I am the cofounder of Abracadabra and looking back, there is one single event that gave me the idea to start something like this.

My job was to create the design for an e-commerce platform for jewelry. The platform itself was very specific and used a lot of in-house shot imagery. The main communication was via email and my client used it like a chat. During the project there were many last minute changes and new photo shoots. The layout itself was changed back and forth several times and forced main rethinking of our design. In the end, I was met with criticism that my final work was delivered a week late and that it was my fault for wasted ad placements and that I was only getting partially paid.

For some reason I felt very unfairly treated and decided to fight. Because of all the emails, it was possible to create a project timeline showing every delivery and subsequent change I had to make. It also showed how many times I had to wait for a new photoshoot and how it set my own work back a step.

The entire visualization proved that the project would have been on time had he, the client, not kept changing his mind. The client was furious because I had the audacity to question his authority, but… he paid me in full.

After this small victory, I thought that my tedious job of collecting all the emails could be done by a machine in an instant. Besides, the machine could have informed my client during the project that his changes were pushing the delivery date beyond his expectations. Then there might not have been a conflict at all.
